Maria,
Gallon Guy was a hit! The water demonstration was most effective!
Observations, Commendations and Recommendations
1.Your introduction to liquid measurement was meaningful. You incorporated students’ prior knowledge along with making real-life connections.
2.You asked open-ended questions. “Where have you seen these words in your life?”
3.You validated students’ responses. “You said important things that I hold on to.”
4.The grocery bag of items engaged the students. (containers – salad dressing, drinks…)
5.The water demonstration of gallons and quarts was enlightening for some of the students. When you asked for predictions, students said 2, 3, 4 quarts equals a gallon. After the demonstration, the conversion was more obvious in their understanding. Why do you think they didn’t transfer prior knowledge?
6.The Gallon Guy worksheet/activity was another way to reinforce the concept, but very time consuming. Perhaps, it could have been completed on another day.
7.You were very flexible in adapting to so many last minute changes to your lesson.
8.Overall, you really concentrate and listen to your students. You were excited about teaching the lesson and very prepared.
9.I enjoyed learning about the additional activities you had planned for the lesson. I’m sure you will have more opportunities to try out the other tasks.
10Great Teaching!
